Troubleshooting Tips

Speeding Up a Slow Network

The following procedures are suggested for users who are experiencing slow network response times.

Solution1:

  • If you have a "hub" installed, try using a "switch" or "router"

  • Remove all network protocols except for TCP/IP

  • Try specifying IP Addresses for each TCP/IP Adaptor (unless using a DSL/Cable
    Gateway Router)

  • We do not recommend using "Wireless" in a restaurant environment

Solution2:

  • Hire a local computer network expert to analyze the situation

  • You may have a bad cable, bad network card, etc.

  • You may need to increase memory on each PC, etc.

A suggestion from one of our users:

  • Uninstall MS Access Runtime on each PC

  • Install Microsoft Access (2000 SR1 or higher) on each PC

  • Download & install the latest Microsoft (Database) Jet Engine on each PC

Thermal receipt printer is running slowly

Solution1: Make sure you have setup the receipt printer drivers on each PC "exactly" as explained in the RestaurantPlus Setup Guide.

Solution2: Right-click the Printer Driver > select Printer Preferences > change the resolution (example: change 180 x180 to 90 x 90)

After installing the software I get a "blank screen" when trying to open BackOffice

Solution1: One possibility is that during setup, you entered a different folder name. Initially, all software MUST be installed to the folder: (C:)/Program Files/RestaurantPlus.

Solution2: Another possibility is that you do not have Microsoft Access 2000 (SR1 or higher) or Access 2002 installed on the PC. In this case, you must install "Microsoft Runtime" from the RestaurantPlus CD (see the Getting Started instructions that came with your CD).

Solution3: If you have Microsoft Office 2000 Professional installed, make certain that it is level SR1 or higher. If not, then download Office 2000 SR1 from Microsoft's website: http://support.microsoft.com

After exiting the POS application, my Office Printer Driver is no longer the "Default Printer"

Solution1: Rename your office printer driver to OFFICEPRT

Solution2: In POS Setup > Local PC Setup > put a checkmark in "Office Printer Attached to This PC"

After initial setup I get Runtime Error 8542 when printing to my receipt printer

Solution1: Check your printer driver settings > printer settings > paper width (select the maximum width)

Solution2: Check your printer driver settings > make sure the printer type matches your receipt printer. If not, delete the printer drive and re-install the correct Epson printer driver

The following feedback is from an experienced network installer who took a different approach, for "tech-heads" who may want to try it out:

"After installing the printer and running the epson 3 driver I also ran ieesetup.exe from Epson as well as added a jumper to the card so it is dhcp.  then after rebooting the machine I went into the printer preferences and then created a different port, a tcp/ip port using the epson print server and configured it to use the proper Ip address,  then it correctly connected."
